This article represents the author’s reflection on available formats for the notation of a score, methodologies for computer-aided analysis and the possible ways of rendering scores of nineteenth-century Polish music. The author will also present sample transcriptions and outline the basic capacities of computer-aided analysis. There are undeniable benefits resulting from the creation of a large data base of nineteenth-century Polish music (the ultimate aim is to go beyond that timeframe). This concerns not only critical style analysis, but also research into the attribution of anonymous works. The possibilities offered by modern technology enable us to conduct research that was not previously feasible. One promising example of this is the data base of the Josquin Research Project, created by Stanford academics.
