Krystyna Kobylańska (1922–2009) made an inestimable contribution to Polish music historiography of the second half of the twentieth century. For more than half a century she conducted source research into the life and work of Fryderyk Chopin. Her rich output covers first and foremost publications concerning manuscripts of Chopin works and correspondence. She wrote the album Chopin w kraju. Dokumenty i pamiątki [Chopin in Poland: documents and souvenirs] (1955), Rękopisy utworów Chopina / Manuscripts of Chopin’s Works (1977) and two epistolographic publications: Korespondencji Fryderyka Chopina z rodziną [Fryderyk Chopin’s correspondence with his family] (1972) and Korespondencji Fryderyka Chopina z George Sand i z jej dziećmi [Fryderyk Chopin’s correspondence with George Sand and her children] (1981). She also published two works in German: Frédéric Chopin. Thematisch-bibliographisches Werkverzeichnis (1979) and Briefe. Frédéric Chopin (1983). Krystyna Kobylańska also wrote several hundred articles, reviews, exhibition catalogues, expert opinions and studies related to Chopin’s legacy.
